Cafes, Tearooms & Snack Bars around Oxford

The Grand Café

84 High St, Oxford OX1 4BG, UK – 01865 204463

Exceptionally good berry cheesecake with violet glaze. Well balanced sweetness with tart berry centre, excellent balance of textures with baked cheese cake, gooey centre, and crunchy oatie base. Superb.

What an experience! The sandwiches were great, the tea and coffee were equally as good. Fresh scones were just the icing on the cake. Next time we're in Oxford we will visit again.

Society Café Oxford

12-16 St Michael's St, Oxford OX1 2DU, UK – 01865 425750

First time having a chai Latte. The service was polite and kind they did not make a fuss of the guide dogs. The time when my partner and I was around 10, it was.very quite so if that is your atmosphere I would suggest to go there.

Great quality coffee and (usually) great service. However, I would not recommend it as a place to work as the seats are not comfortable enough to sit for a long period, and because the WiFi hardly ever works. Also, they occasionally hand out leaflets asking people not to work for long periods unless they keep buying coffees. A lovely place for visits of less than 40 minutes.

1738 Tea Room

Boswells, 1, 4 Broad St, Oxford OX1 3AG, UK – 01865 241244

I took cream tea which includes scone and a cup of tea(you can choose the tea). The tea is served with milk and you can put it in your tea. It was less than £5 and it was so satisfying. Love it!😍

okay staff good food

Oxford Fish Shop

287A Iffley Rd, Oxford OX4 4AQ, UK – 01865 200020

Super cheap and tasty chips! Chap who works here always has a smile on his face and loves a chat. They don't take card but will happily get your order ready while you grab some cash from the cash point in the Co-op next door. Opening hours are a bit odd sometimes and they can close earlier than you might expect.

Good customer service. Ok fish and chips. But I'm yet to taste the Perfect Fish and Chips (homemade style).

Mediterranean Fish Bar

270 Abingdon Rd, Oxford OX1 4TA, UK – 01865 243822

I had battered cod with chips and mushy peas. It was generous portion size, very delicious, not greasy at all, just how I like it. I left the plate empty. Definitely value for money. The staff are polite, nice and welcoming. Highly recommended!

One of the better chip shops in Oxford. Generous portions of well cooked chips always sways my hand to give a favourable review. Fun fact, they're usually really busy on a Friday.

Mediterranean Fish Bar

10 Cherwell Dr, Oxford OX3 0LY, UK – 01865 742385

Best chippy in Oxford! Dinne in or take out. Trick: phone 10min before going to not wait for the haddock, is massive but worth it!

The food here is positively bursting with flavour. Still lingering in my mouth an hour after eating, I don't know how they do it. Not only the best chips and kebab in Oxford but the best I've ever had. Staff are always pleasant too. I can't fault this place

Sandwich Bars, Deliveries & Lunchtime Snack Outlets around Oxford

The Bear Inn

6 Alfred St, Oxford OX1 4EH, UK – 01865 728164

Cosy little pub. They have a nice menu where it's easy to find something for everyone. There isn't that much space inside, but there's a terrace at the back that houses plenty of people. Prices are reasonable.

Good beer, but very small inside and Oxford expensive. Centrally located with covered outside area- has heaters in the winter, but surrounded by buildings and essentially on the pavement. Nice service but only one female toilet up some rickety old stairs. Full of character and traditional pub feel, with Oxford university associated décor.

Turf Tavern

4-5 Bath Pl, Oxford OX1 3SU, UK – 01865 243235

Had the shared fish and chips with some buffalo wings. So far this was the best fish and chips I ever had. The cucumber pickles added a very nice balance to the fish. Those mini fish inside the bun were tasty and very cute to look at. The buffalo wings were cooked perfectly and sauce on the top provided a tangy taste which enhanced the taste. The ambiance of the place is worth mentioning as it is built in 17th century and it still standing strong!

Have always liked the pub. It serves more traditional style meals which are adequate but you really come to this pub because of it's historical setting and atmosphere. You have a choice to sit inside or if it's warm outside in the beer garden. Hidden down back alleyways it can be a little difficult to locate if you don't know the area but it is well worth a visit.

Cafe Tarifa

56-60 Cowley Road, Oxford OX4 1JB, UK – 01865 256091

LOVE this place. The atmosphere and interiors and full of warmth and character. It's friendly and well priced. When it's sunny they open the large shutter windows which is lovely. They have live music and cocktails too. Great for cosy drinks but have never eaten here.

Cool place. Great for after work drinks, but I noticed they also do a free toddlers group which is lovely. Cocktails are very good and the staff are really nice.

Very good. Enjoyed my meal.

Hong Kong House

19, Suffolk House, S Parade, Oxford OX2 7HN, UK – 01865 552050

Fantastic food at a brilliant price. Really tasty. Don't worry about how it looks - the open plan kitchen is fun, and the speed of service most impressive. They do take away too!

Often good, very popular with Chinese students, local boarding school pupils, and Summer town residents. Some of the recipes are geared to English tasted, others are more authentically Chinese.

Indian Takeaways

Qumins Indian Cuisine

86 St Clement's St, Oxford OX4 1AR, UK – 01865 247093

First visit to Oxford Indian cuisine. Qumins is a small modern restaurant which also has outside dining. Food was well presented and enjoyable although we all said it was a little on the mild side but then we are more used to London curries! Found it a little annoying when the waiter was removing dishes whilst we were still eating. Seemed to be popular for take away orders.

Good service, Nice prices. Food could have used som more salt but that is easy corrected by yourself.

107-108 Walton St, Oxford OX2 6AJ, UK – 01865 554905

Jamal’s Saffron is a great place to throw a dinner party for your friends and family. I recently celebrated my second anniversary at this restaurant. It was a small group of twelve people but they have space for more. We booked a reservation beforehand. The staff was very cordial and attentive towards us. The food kept on coming without any delays. Great food and very good service. You can surely give them try. Our guests were very happy.

Updating my review after another terrific lunch. Restaurant lunch special is both generously portioned and delicious. I had the chef's special, which offers a choice between chicken and lamb . I had the lamb — tender, flavorful, and perfectly spiced. An astounding assortment of sides accompanied the main to complete the meal: all of it absolutely delicious. There was so much food; each side was the same size as the main course. There was plenty of food to satisfy two complete meals, each very satisfying and filling. Service was delightfully accommodating.....

Chutneys Indian Brasserie

36 St Michael's St, Oxford OX1 2EB, UK – 01865 724241

Brilliant food. Very tasty. Right amount. Good staff. Cosy place.

The food was really good and definitely authentic! I suggest asking for recommendations because that is what we did and the food that they brought was better than what we would’ve got on our own.

Takeaway Food

140 Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1JJ, UK – 01865 243971

A very small KFC outlet without tables or chairs, but the chicken is still very tasty especially if you catch a freshly cooked batch, fairly quick service if not too busy.

Good customer service. Warm food. Better than before

35 Cornmarket St, Oxford OX1 3EZ, UK – 01865 249300

Food was fine and service was great... That's why a gave 4 stars - Only issue, there was a BIG pile of bin bags in front of the shop.

Do you like chicken? This is your place

Kebab Kid

146 Cowley Rd, Oxford OX4 1JJ, UK – 01865 201133

Amazing n tasty take out as well as a very nice restaurant upstairs. Really great food n prices

The quality of the food has gone down over the last few years. The most frustrating thing about this place is that sometimes they provide top quality food and service and other times both are worse than sub par.
